Aussie Models I Expect to Appear in the F/W 2011 Season

source: made by me

This season I am looking forward to see what my fellow Australians are going to be doing during fashion week. There is so much speculation around of who is going to be our dominant Aussie at fashion week.

News has circulated that Abbey-lee will be skipping New York so she can work on personal musical projects. This is shocking as for the last few years she has been our dominant Aussie, and now she is not participating, who will take her place?

We are going to see an invasion of top model girls at fashion week. Amanda Ware, Alice Burdeu and Chantal Croccolo are all currently in NY attending castings. Ajak Deng, Julia Nobis and Lauren Brown will also do well during this fashion week. I am interested to see how Bambi goes, she is the short girl with the less then impressive walk, so I wonder if her hype will uphold.

Samantha Harris is not expected to walk in New York due to commitments with David Jones. I am really hoping that she will do the other fashion weeks, but I do not see that happening. Because she is one of the faces of David Jones she must fly around the country doing work for them. I also think she will do the Melbourne Fashion Festival as Alex Perry has a show there. Hopefully we do not have to wait another season for her to go international, I am getting impatient.

Elyse Taylor and Jessica Hart are also expected to walk during the fashion season. I am pretty certain that these two will be participating in the Gestuz swimwear show. Jessica is currently in Las Vegas, so I don't know if that interferes with her being at castings and fittings. She had a stellar season in London last year, so hopefully she will go back and give it another shot. She should also try Milan and Paris, it would be difficult for her but she could do it. We will have to wait to see if Jess will take part in NY, Women did not give her a showcard.

As many are aware, Miranda Kerr gave birth approximately a month ago. I just wonder if she will be back in shape just in time for the Balenciaga show, that would be so amazing. I am not expecting her to walk any other shows only that one.

Victorias Secret Models Going High Fashion

source: Sassi Sam Blog

This week the fashion world saw the release of Candice Swanepoel's cover for Italian Vogue. Many disliked the cover because of the styling (I agree with those who said this), but also many did not like the cover due to their disapproval of Victorias Secret Angels . To be perfectly honest, I am loving this new trend. The Angels represent a more positive body image and have great personalities. Even though part of me is unsure about Candice (due to her reported Diva antics), I rather see her on the cover as opposed to some anorexic high fashion model.

What makes me laugh is that many people get angry when VS models do high fashion work, but say nothing when high fashion models are doing VS (e.g. the Victorias Secret Fashion Show or the catalogue). There seems to be a double standard when it comes down to the different areas of modelling. At the end of the day the Angels are getting payed millions of dollars, receiving lots of exposure and getting all the magazine covers. I am really hoping we see more of the VS girls dominating the fashion industry.

I am going to conclude my post with a quote Nicolas Ghesquiere said about Miranda Kerr in an interview with Vogue Australia...

"A woman has many different sides. Victoria’s Secret are using the sexy, cute side of Miranda Kerr. I wanted to show she could have a more experimental, edgy side. Sometimes, in this business people want to put you in a box and I’m against that."
